68% of Vermont voters support legislation to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products, according to a new survey.

According to a news release on November 29 by Vermontbiz, a new poll conducted by the “Vermont Tobacco-Free Alliance” and the “Keep Kids Tobacco-Free Movement” revealed that 68% of Vermont voters support legislation that would ban the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including but not limited to fruit and candy-flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, and other flavored cigarettes.

The current bill (S.18) has been approved by the Vermont Senate and will be submitted for review by the Vermont House of Representatives in January 2024.

A recent survey found that support for ending the sale of all flavored tobacco products comes from a broad range of voters in Vermont, including voters with different political views and voters from various regions within the state. According to Tina Zuck of the American Heart Association, 79% of Vermonters are concerned about young people in their communities smoking and using e-cigarettes or other tobacco products.

Dr. Faricy, a pediatrician from Vermont, stated that pediatricians, parents, and schools are still striving to support a significant number of teenagers with nicotine dependence. Young people have informed us that one of the reasons they initiate e-cigarette use is the appealing flavor options, which make the product more attractive.

According to reports, a total of 500 interviews were conducted by research firm Expedition Strategies in the state of Vermont with potential voters for the 2024 elections. The interviews took place from November 14th to 19th, 2023. The margin of error for the overall results was ±4.38%.
