Singapore Man Fined for Helping Colleagues Buy E-Cigarettes

Singapore youth instructor fined $3500 for helping colleagues buy e-cigarettes; admits to seven charges of violating tobacco law.

According to a report on November 7th by Malaysian news outlet Berita Harian, a youth mentor from Singapore Boys’ Home (SBH) was fined 3500 Singapore dollars for assisting his colleague in purchasing an e-cigarette.

The man, known as Ang Kim Chui Derek Andre, has admitted to seven charges under the Tobacco Act.

Investigation reveals that Ang facilitated the purchase of e-cigarette devices and pods for personal use by seven colleagues. One of his colleagues set up a group chat to facilitate e-cigarette purchases for SBH employees. Ang would consolidate the orders, purchase the products from the supplier, and distribute them to his colleagues without making any profit.

There is currently no evidence to suggest that he has ever shared or purchased tobacco products and their components with SHB’s youth.

It has been reported that purchasing these e-cigarettes and devices for personal use is considered illegal in Singapore.
