Indian Court Rejects Appeal against Ban on E-Cigarettes in Civil Aviation

India’s civil aviation security banned e-cigarettes on flights in March 2021, sparking controversy and a subsequent appeal.

According to a report from Punjab Kesari, an Indian media outlet, the Indian Civil Aviation Security Department introduced a ban on carrying e-cigarettes on civil aviation in March 2021. This ban has recently sparked a heated debate.

Public health expert Sutirtha Dutta lodged a formal complaint seeking to overturn this directive. However, Judge Subramanyam Prasad warned of the possibility of imposing heavy fines on Dutta. Consequently, Dutta withdrew the appeal.

During the hearing, Duta’s lawyer argued that e-cigarettes are a less harmful substitute and refuted rumors claiming that e-cigarettes pose more risks than traditional cigarettes.
