Call for Urgent Action on Teenage E-Cigarette Use in Dutch

Dutch Sint Maarten legislator, Wescot, urges urgent action from health and education sectors on e-cigarette use among youth.

According to a report from smn-news, Member of Parliament Wescot from the Dutch territory of Sint Maarten has once again raised the call for urgent action from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports regarding the issue of e-cigarette use among young people.

In February of this year, Weskott previously delved into the issue, providing alarming statistical data highlighting the impact of e-cigarettes on adolescents. Furthermore, he proposed certain regulatory suggestions to address the concerns surrounding the sales and purchase of these devices.

According to Wescott, despite his repeated warnings and provision of potential solutions to the government, there has been no substantive action taken since he raised this issue, which has left him feeling urgent.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports should refer to the Commercial Law and regulate e-cigarettes through national legislation by the Minister of Health. He promised that this would not require legislation. However, he is still waiting for the latest developments on this matter.
