Canadian authorities from the British Columbia Ministry of Justice and Public Safety, along with the Quebec security unit, Sûreté du Québec, have seized approximately 70,000 illegal cigarettes in a recent operation in Campbellton, British Columbia.
Seven individuals have been charged with violating tobacco tax laws as a result of seven traffic inspection activities conducted between December 1st and 2nd.
A quantity of smuggled cigarettes with an estimated value of $17,855 in provincial taxes and $11,077 in federal sales tax were confiscated following an investigation. It is worth noting that in the past eight months, law enforcement officers from the department have seized more than a million illicit cigarette packs, leading to the prosecution of 34 individuals.
