The Independent British Vaping Trade Association (IBVTA) has announced voluntary regulations for the e-cigarette industry in the UK. These regulations aim to address concerns regarding youth access to and experimentation with e-cigarettes and disposable products. The agreement covers standards for product marketing, product names, and flavors in order to ensure that e-cigarette products do not excessively appeal to children.
Key points of the regulations include guidelines on product branding, taste characteristics, and the use of images that may attract teenagers. The IBVTA has already secured the support of major players in the industry, covering over 50% of disposable e-cigarette products in the market.
Marcus Saxton, Chairman of the IBVTA, emphasized that the industry is committed to addressing concerns and is prepared to work with the government to create a responsive and proportionate regulatory framework. He also urged the government to take action against the illegal e-cigarette market.
It is noteworthy that products that comply with UK regulations and are notified to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) are the only ones permitted for supply. Compliance with waste and recycling regulations is also emphasized.
The IBVTA aims to encourage more companies to sign on to the regulations in the coming weeks and months, with the hope to gradually increase the coverage of disposable e-cigarette products in the UK market.
