JTI Plans to Move Production Lines to Gran Canaria

Japanese Tobacco International (JTI) plans to move production of Winston and Camel brands to the Spanish island of Tenerife, boosting exports.

According to the Spanish media La Provincia on November 4th, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is planning to transfer part of the production lines for its iconic brands Winston and Camel from their current locations in Germany and Poland to the island of Tenerife in Spain.

According to reports, the company is set to invest 46 million euros to install new high-speed production lines and refurbish production equipment, in order to meet traceability requirements for its cigarettes and promote various measures related to sustainable development at the facility. It is expected that these investments will increase the factory’s production capacity by 40%.

At the same time, this measure will significantly increase the total quantity of tobacco exports from Tenerife Island. According to JTI’s prediction, the future export volume of cigarettes may surpass bananas, which is currently the dominant trade product of Tenerife Island.
